It was just a few weeks ago on a cold February morning that I shot Kelly and Dave’s pre-wed photos. This weekend, Linda, Simon and I had the privilege of documenting their wedding day. Having shot Kelly’s sister’s wedding a year ago we immediately felt welcome, many of the guests already knew us and were happy to allow us into their celebrations.
For Kelly, the day began at the Red Lion, Peak Edge Hotel in Derbyshire. It was very calm when we arrived with just her sister and parents to help with the preparations. The room at the hotel was amazing to shoot in, gorgeous light streamed through the window, a wedding photographer’s dream!
Dave and his party were making their own preparations at their home in Blidworth, Simon was there to capture the key moments and did a brilliant job.
The whole day was a great celebration of a couple who want to spend the rest of their lives together. We really appreciated the kindness offered to us as we documented the events that unfolded around us and hope these few shots below give an indication of what a great day it was.
Kelly and Dave, we wish you all the best in your future together and thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of it.
Thanks to Simon Holmes for providing fantastic coverage at Dave’s house, as well as those extra shots during the day.
You can’t get away that easily! Simon assures me this wasn’t staged at all.
As a surprise present to Dave, Kelly had organised a Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 to be delivered to the house to take Dave to the venue. Okay, I know this may be a guy thing but the sound from the engine was absolutely amazing!
Everything was calm and collected in the suite at the Peak Edge Hotel.
A few detail shots, making the most of the warm light.
Some final preparations and we’re almost there.
Linda is primarily there to assist me during the day but is taking more and more shots of her own these days. The photo below left is one of hers…I’m thinking I’ve got serious competition here!
Beautiful flowers from Petals and Plantstyle.
Kelly looked simply stunning. I don’t want to go on too much about the light but it was such a dream to work with.
Dave and the rest of his party arrived at the Red Lion ready for the ceremony.
Dad accompanied Kelly down the aisle.
Another great shot captured by Linda.
Although the weather had picked up it was still cool and breezy out on the dale but we still managed to get a few shots of the happy couple.
You don’t always need blue skies to make a great wedding photo.
Back inside for speeches…
… and the first dance.
…and the traditional father and son dance?
Guests had the opportunity to leave best wishes to the newly weds.
I just had to post this last photo. To be honest, it’s not the sharpest of images and wouldn’t normally make it onto the blog but capturing the moment was far more important than getting a perfect exposure. It was a dark room and I would have needed multiple flash heads to get this image right but it all happened so fast and I had to make do with what I’d got in my hands at the time. It was great to see these guys having so much fun, but check out Grandma’s facial expression in the bottom left corner of the frame…priceless!
